Thank You To Steve Arney

Oak Grove Hot Shot Crew Shirt
The Wildland Firefighter Foundation would like to say thank you to Steve Arney, former and last Oak Grove Hot Shot Superintendent. The Foundation is honored to add the last known, existing Oak Grove Hot Shot t-shirt to our collection at the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

The Oak Grove Hot Shot crew was one of the very first Hot Shot crews formed in the Forest Service, within Region 5. Chilao, El Cariso, and Del Rosa Hot Shots were the other three. The crew was located on the former Arroyo Seco, Ranger District, Angeles National Forest and was disbanded in 1978.

Prior symbols being developed by each crew, generic forest insignias were used, mostly on the helmets. Oak Grove Superintendent Larry Boggs Developed the "Woody Woodpecker" logo with the help of the husband of a FS employee by the name of Ruth Coe. Ruth's husband was a cartoonist that worked for the Walter Lantz Productions. Walter Lantz owned the copyrights to Woody Woodpecker and gave his written permission to use his character to represent the Oak Grove Hot Shot crew.
